Lot Essay

Private J. Harris was injured when a train was wrecked by the Boers at Frederickstad on 30.7.1900.

The train was derailed on the line between Krugersdorp and Klerksdorp, causing casualties to the Shropshire Light Infantry of 13 killed and 38 wounded. Photographs of the incident can be found in Lord Albemarle's album in Lot 450.
