Engineer Lieutenant-Commander Vernon Airey Brook entered the Royal Navy as a Probationary Assistant Engineer on 1.7.1900 and joined H.M.S. Monarch, Guardship at the Cape of Good Hope, in November 1900. He was confirmed as an Assistant Engineer on 1.7.1901.
