Chief Stoker J.H. Penny (alias Pinhey), a West Country man, was pensioned ashore in early 1902, after 20 years with the Senior Service. He did not, however, qualify for the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, although he was recalled for active service between 1914 and 1919.
