Ashburner's Light Horse was raised in Cape Colony on 25.3.1901 and had a strength of approximately 130. It was employed in the Warrenton-Vryburg-Kuruman district and in the south-west Transvaal. Ashburner's Light Horse was a part of Lord Methuen's Column which was mauled by De la Rey at Klipdrift on 7.3.1902. Out of the 126 men in action at Klipdrift, Ashburner's Light Horse had 11 killed and 11 wounded.
