A Letter From a Member of the Cape Mounted Rifles to His Brother A four-page manuscript letter, dated 5.8.1901, beginning with a very detailed assessment of the possibilities of renting land in order to farm livestock, but resuming on the 10 August with an animated account of an encounter on the previous day with a party of Boers, involving a mounted charge across open ground followed by an assault on foot, only to discover that the enemy had withdrawn and the pursuit had to be continued - the action ended with the C.M.R. providing fire support from a range of 2800 yards while, a Squadron of Lancers attacked the enemy.
