Lot Essay

Lieutenant-Colonel John Alfred Hamilton Britton was commissioned into the Devonshire Regiment in January 1901 and served with them in the Guerilla War from October 1901 to May 1902. After completing his service with the Devons he transferred to the Indian Army. During the Great War he served in East Africa and Mesopotamia with the 83rd Wallaparum Light Infantry. Britton was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel in 1926 and retired in 1930.
