The text of the letter reads:
'It has been brought to the notice of the General Officer Commanding- in-Chief that, subsequent to the action at Klip Drift on the 7th instant, parties of men, women and chidren were engaged in stripping the dead and wounded.

Should subsequent operations in the Western Transvaal bring your Column to the scene of the action, you will take measures to remove all Women and children living within a radius of 15 miles of the battlefield, with a view to sending them straight down to Natal. They should be informed that this action is in consequence of their abominable behaviour to the dead and wounded on the occasion in question.'
