Four hand-made badges in grey metal, as follows: The Arms of the Transvaal; a horseman, the body of the horse inscribed 'Art. Man, Z.A.R.' beneath; a field-gun and Gunner with inscription 'WAR' above; and crossed arrows within a heart beneath a key and letters 'Z.A.R.', all mounted on a varnished oblong hardwood plaque, 6in. by 11in. (16.5cm. by 28cm) inscribed, 'Boer Fighting Badges Presented to Civil Surgeon Harman by Prisoners H.M.T. "Catalonia", 1900'
