"The Illustrated London News Record of the Transvaal War 1899-1900" Published by the Illustrated London News and Sketch Limited, 198 Strand, London WC, 81 pages of text, copiously illustrated, the first 32 covering, in chronological order, the events from the declaration of War on 11.10.1899 until the occupation of Pretoria on 5.6.1900, the remainder of the publication being divided into chapters, detailing the performance of individual regiments (English, Irish and Scottish Infantry, Colonial Forces, Cavalry and Imperial Yeomanry, etc.) and other organisations (Artillery, Medical Staff, The Royal Navy, etc. with one chapter entitled "Women in the War"), the text concluding with a one-page account of 'The later performances of the British Troops in South Africa' covering events up to the 14.10.1900; the illustrations are mainly taken from sketches or drawings by war-artists (Melton Prior, Villiers, Frank Steward and Caton Woodville) and a few by serving Officers, but include a few photographs and some photogravure portrait vignettes of senior commanders, V.C. winners, etc., the decorative cover depicting in colour the winged Victory flanked by the Arms of the Dominions and Colonies whose contingents took part in the War (the magazine is in a grey paper outer cover)
