Probably of a standing Jesuit wearing a hooded cape washed in blue above a long white robe, the bearded face tilted upwards and with smiling expression, holding an ingot in his right hand, the rectangular base reserved in the biscuit

Lot Essay

Similarly glazed figures reserved in the biscuit were found on the Geldermalsen, and also sold as the 'Nanking Cargo' in Amsterdam, 28 April - 2 May 1986.
