Provenance:
The ring was custom-made in Western Australia for His Grace, the Most Reverend Dr. Redmond Prendiville on his appointment as Roman Catholic Archbishop of Perth, Western Australia in 1935.
Archbishop Prendiville's first episcopal appointment was in 1933, as auxiliary bishop of Perth. He was, at the time, the youngest bishop in the world.
Redmond Prendiville was born in Castleisland, Ireland, in 1900. A top-class athelete, he received Gaelic football's highest honour in September 1924. He joined the archdiocese of Perth in 1925.
On the death of Archbishop Prendiville in 1968, the ring passed to his nephew, Father Thomas Prendiville. The latter willed the ring to his nephew, the current owner, Edward J. Prendiville of Mississauga, Ontario
