A Porcelain Gorgelet (Kendi)
Arita Ware, Edo Period (circa 1690)
Decorated in polychrome enamels over clear glaze with two rui-shaped panels of a Chinese lion and clouds separated on the side opposite the spout by an arrangement of Taoist 'precious emblems,' the base of the neck painted with bands of frets and fine lines and the neck with two confronted flower sprays, the spout painted in a star shape in iron-red and with colored scrolling foliage
