English, Chelsea Ware (Circa 1752-55), Red Anchor Mark on Inside of Neck
Painted in polychrome enamels and gilt over clear glaze in Kakiemon style with three panels of pine, plum and bamboo alternating with three other panels of scrolling chrysanthemums on a red ground, the neck decorated with foliage and the cover matching the body in modified detail

Lot Essay

The jar and cover are painted with three panels of pine, bamboo and plum, 'The Three Friends' (Shochikubai).
