Six Tsuba of Various Schools
Edo Period (18th and 19th Centuries, The First, Fifth and Sixth Circa 1750, the Second Circa 1850)
1) A round, thick iron plate with a slightly raised rim, the web carved with a basket-weave pattern, and with three insects on the face, and two on the reverse, all inlaid in shakudo and copper, and with gold dots, Aizu-Shoami work; 2) an oval iron plate carved with a mat-weave pattern and overlaid with three carved go-san chrysanthemum crests, the leaves with gold nunome veins, the reverse with two chrysanthemum crests, late Aizu-Shoami work; 3) an iron mokko plate carved with a mat-weave and with a border of gold nunome scrollwork in a diamond shape; 4) a tanto hamidashi shaped iron plate carved on both sides in a mat-weave pattern; 5) a rounded-square iron plate with hammered surface in Tembo style, with ants inlaid in shibuichi and shakudo and gilt, and dew drops in shakudo, Mito area work; 6) a round iron plate with a slightly raised rim, the web cut in concentric grooves, the edge cut with rope pattern, Aizu-Shoami work (6)
