Lot Essay

In order to take preliminary sketches Cuneo was given authority to travel on the footplate, and then stop the London to Plymouth train for just 30 seconds so he could find the perfect angle for this painting. In the end after much deliberation Cuneo climbed up to sit on one of the stone columns.
