Schleger studied at the National School of Applied Arts in Berlin, and in 1924 moved to New York, and then London. Having previously worked as the art director for an American advertising agency, Schleger designed the bus-stop symbol for London Transport in 1935, and was elected Royal Designer for Industry in 1959. He designed 31 posters for London Transport between the years of 1935 and 1947.
