Lot Essay

The preliminary sketches for this poster were completed while Cuneo was sea sick standing on the bridge of the S.S.Invicta.
One of Cuneo's most loved trade marks was the depiction of a mouse in every painting, and here he paints the mouse wearing a blue t-shirt to make a humorous comment on how railway ships were not infested with rodents.
