Miscellanea austriaca ad botanicum, chemiam, et historiam naturalem spectantia, cum figuris partim colouratis. Vienna: ex officina Krausiana, and J. Gerold and M.A. Schmidt, 1778-81. 2 volumes, 4 (237 x 182mm.) 44 hand-coloured engraved plates, 5 folding, by Jakob Adams, woodcut title vignettes, head- and tail-pieces. Contemporary Austrian half sheep, the flat spines with six compartments delineated in gilt, tan calf lettering-pieces in the second, numbered in the fourth, uncut and almost entirely unopened. Provenance: Robert de Belder (sale: Sotheby's 27 April 1987 lot 174).

The de Belder copy, and a fine unsophisticated set of the first and only edition. This is the forerunner to Jacquin's Collecteana, and provided a forum similar to the latter for occasional publications by Jacquin, his friends and colleagues. Franz Xavier Von Wulfen's Plantae rariores Carinthiacae, begun in vol.II and continued in the Collecteana, is perhaps the most important all the articles. Two groups of paper stock were used: the present set corresponds to the Plesch copy (rather than the Hunt copy), with the text on unwatermarked paper, and the plates on paper watermarked with a shield with fleur-de-lys, countermarked C. & J. Honig. Hunt 655 (imperfect); Nissen BBI 975; Pritzel 4367; Stafleu & Cowan 3248. (2)
