Lot Essay

A student of Louis Hersent (1777-1860) and Joseph Thodore Richomme (1785-1849) at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Eugne Giraud was a familiar figure at the Parisian Salons, winning on various occasions medals for his exhibited works. A painter of the political, artistic and mundane celebrities of the Parisian society of the Third Republic, Giraud's trademark, and almost caricatural portrayals, became widespread and imitated amongst 'in vogue' artists of the capital.
