Chteau Latour--Vintage 1945
Pauillac, 1er cru class. Chteau-bottled
Lots 114 to 119 in original tissues. Excellent appearance. Lots 120 and 121 slightly bin-soiled labels. Lots 114 to 120 levels top-shoulder. Lot 121 levels: one just below top and one mid-shoulder
Tasting note: Magnificent. One of the best ever...still extremely vigorous and youthful in 1965. It had mellowed, less deep, less dense but still lively and rich, with a fine mature rim in the mid-1960s, its bouquet crammed with fruit. Now more forthcoming, fully evolved, fragrant, spicy Cabernet Sauvignon, cinnamon and eucalyptus, worth giving it time in the glass. Still full-bodied, crammed with fruit, extract, flesh. Great length. Tannins ameliorating but still gripping it firmly. MB (GVWB II)
