Oliver Milderberger Lownds (1800-1844) was the son of Thomas Lownds (lot 47) and brother of James M. Lownds (lot 48). He is depicted here with his wife, Jane Maria Crowell, (1802-1874). In the New York City directories of 1836-1837, Oliver is listed as a 'special justice.' Later in 1825, he became a New York Supreme Court Justice. He was also an early founding member of the St. Nicholas Society with the writer, Washington Irving.
Oliver Lownds is listed in the New York City 1830 Census as living in the seventh ward with a household of six. By 1840, Oliver moved to 112 Liberty Street, and his household expanded to a total of ten. With the coinciding disappearance of James Lownds from the 1840 Census, it is possible the two families shared residences.
