Lot Essay

It is likely that the present plaque was originally intended to be inset into a piece of furniture. Cf. Robert E. Röntgen, The Book of Meissen, Exton, PA, 1984, pl. 72 for a rococo revival jewel casket inset with a similar plaque; also Dr. K. Berling, ed., Meissen China an Illustrated History, Toronto, 1972, fig. 231
