Henry Dasson (d. 1895), the celebrated Parisian bniste and bronzier, had workshops at 106, rue Vieille-du-Temple and specialised predominantly in the production of Louis XIV, XV and XVI style furniture. In 1871 he bought the workshop and remaining stock from the widow of Charles-Guillaume Winckelsen, who had established a reputation for furniture of the finest quality. Dasson continued with this acclaim and exhibited at both the 1878 and 1889 Paris Expositions Universelles.
Although a departure from his more customary work, and owing more to the Aesthetic movement of the 1880s, this unusual guridon demonstrates perfectly Dasson's ability as bronzier.
