The oviform vase with short handles rising from shoulder to rim, socle foot and further square base, the neck and shoulder decorated with pale blue doves with palm fronds on grey clouds, the body in pâte-sur-pâte with a frieze of a female pilgrim in gauzy drapery standing beside a sign post and tying her sandals, attendant putti offering food and drink, the reverse with putti calculating distances on a map--21½in. (54.5cm.) high
