Lot Essay

Gustav III (1746-1792), married Sofia Magdalena, daughter of King Frederick V of Denmark, in 1766 and succeeded to the Swedish throne in 1771. He was shot and mortally wounded while attending a midnight masquerade at the Stockholm opera house in March 1792.
