Lot Essay

(1) Dubourcq was a pupil of Andreas Schelfout and travelled extensively. The present lot is part of a series of drawings from the artist's journey to Italy in 1843-4, when he visited Rome, Florence, Terni, Tivoli, Olevano, Itri and Naples. Travelling via Venice, Munich and Paris, Dubourcq returned to Amsterdam in December 1844. Other drawings with Italian views from this journey were sold in these Rooms, 9 November 1998, lot 275, and 29 April 1997, lot 210
