Lot Essay

In the 1988 exhibition catalogue (loc.cit.), Fransje Kuyvenhoven points out that J.A. Knip usually signed in a different manner, and that this view shows resemblances to contemporary work of the artist's brother Mattheus Derk Knip (1785-1845). She considers it possible that the two may have worked together on the present lot
