The Utrecht architect Kramm was a pupil of P.C. Wonder (1780-1852). Apart from his drawing and painting activities, he was also a collector and art critic. In 1859-64 he published De levens en Werken der Hollandsche en Vlaamsche kunstschilders, beeldhouwers, graveurs en bouwmeesters van den vroegsten tijd tot op onzen tijd, still in use today. The inscription on the mount states that Kramm made this drawing at the artist's society 'Kunstliefde', and that the model 'was a beautiful jewish girl, that has made rather a large fortune'.
