Although Waite exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Grosvenor and New Galleries, and the Society of British artists, his preferred forum was the Old Watercolour Society: he was elected an associate of the Royal Watercolour Society in 1876 and a full member in 1884. He was almost exclusively a painter of pastoral scenes such as we see here, his favourite subjects being found in Yorkshire and Southern England, particularly on the South Downs.
