We are grateful to the Hon. Jane Roberts for suggesting that the present drawing was probably executed by Sandby when he lived at Sandpit Gate, Windsor. There was a sandpit in the vicinity and it is quite probable that Sandby would have gone there to sketch. Sandby lived at Sandpit Gate in the early 1750's and this drawing is typical of his early work when he drew more everyday subjects, rather than the refined figures he chose to depict later on.
