Lot Essay

The plan of Revolutionary Paris (1799-1800) reflects the many changes that were made, during this period, in the names of important squares, streets and buildings. The inset map in the upper right-hand corner depicts in red outline the recently completed wall of the Fermiers Généraux. Shortly after the publication of this map, three famous streets honoring Napoleon: rue de Rivoli, rue de Castilione and rue de la Paix were opened up.
