Lot Essay

Edmund Garvey was born in Kilkenny, Ireland, in 1804. As a young man he studyied under Robert Carver in Ireland and then in Rome before taking up residence in Bath where he was acquainted with Thomas Gainsborough. He was made an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1770, and a Member in 1783, where he exhibited both Irish and Continental views.
