Hearts lost the Championship to Kilmarnock on goals against. They both gained 50 points, having played 34 games, won 22 lost 6 and drawn 6. Goals for 62 (Kilmarnock), 90 (Hearts); goals against 33 (Kilmarnock) and 49 (Hearts). This subsequently led to the system being changed from goal average to goal difference
