Lot Essay

The Quarry Men first appeared at the Casbah Coffee Club on 29th August 1959 as a last minute replacement for The Les Stewart Quartet, a group George Harrison was also involved with at this time. The Casbah became a regular venue for the The Quarry Men until October of the same year when a disagreement over payment apparently ended the group's association with the club until they returned to perform as The Beatles on 17th December, 1960.

The Casbah was owned by Mona Best, Pete Best's mother, it was at the Casbah that John, Paul and George first saw Pete perform with The Blackjacks in August, 1960.
