The rectangular top with a brass-mounted border, the frieze fitted with a central drawer applied with acanthus mounts, flanked to either side by a drawer, the reverse with dummy drawers and the ends with central tablets, on collared square channelled legs with foliate sabots, the lock stamped Vve. P. Sormani & Fils, 10 r. Charlot. Paris

Lot Essay

This Louis XVI style desk, in the manner of J. H Reisener (d.1806), was executed by the celebrated Parisian ebenistes Messrs Sormani, established in the rue Charlot in 1867; and to which Paul-Charles Sormani succeeded on his father's death in the late 1870s
