Lot Essay

This rare and unusual piece of furniture with compartment and inscription may have been made to keep a love token. The gouged and pierced geometric decoration with incised trailing foliate ornament heightened in polychrome is found in furniture from the Savoy region of France and pieces of furniture with similarities are illustrated in Mobilier Savoyard et Dauphinois by Charles Massin.
