BRASAVOLA, Antonio Musa. Examen omnium catapotiorum, uel pilularum, quarum apud pharmacopolas usus est, Venice: Vincentius Vaugris, 1543. Small 8, printer's device on title and verso of final leaf (spotted, a few minor marginal waterstains), 19th-century vellum, lettering-piece, scored inscription on title.
This work on compound medicines was published in the same year as the Basel edition. "The impression made by Brasavola's Examen is attested not only by the other editions of which it followed ... but by the rapid appearance of a series of similar dialogues between Brasavola and the old apothecary [called Senex in this book] upon every variety of compound medicine offered for sale in the drugstores of Ferrarra: syrups, pills, electuaries, powders, cathartics, trochees, unguents, plasters and collyria.
