Lot Essay

"The use of certain iconic elements is a constant of Rodrguez's art; human and animal body parts, bizarre objects from far flung market stalls and plastic toys found in local corner shops, all these elements give her work the patina of familiarity, they draw their audience into a strange yet intimate world of half forgotten sensations and memories. In the tradition of all truly surrealist artists Rodrguez links the sensual with hidden and repressed fears, the unexpected yuxtaposition of textures produce a sense of imminent danger that is reinforced by the wounds and injuries which scar her pristine colours."
