Lot Essay

Cf. E. A. Wallis Budge and L. W. King (eds.), Annals of the Kings of Assyria, The British Museum, London, I, 1902, p. 212ff. for the complete 'Standard Inscription' which lists the king's titles, claims and achievements including the building of his palace at Nimrud. The inscription was carved on most of the slabs found in the palace of Ashurnasirpal at Nimrud. Many of these slabs are now in the British Museum and other public museums in Istanbul, Paris, Berlin and Munich as well as in private collections.
