Lot Essay

For a discussion of this group of popular, mid-Qing plain nephrite bottles of flattened form and with narrow mouths, see Hugh Moss, Victor Graham and Ka Bo Tsang, The Art of the Chinese Snuff Bottle, The J & J Collection, Hong Kong, 1993, vol. I, p. 109, no. 50.

This bottle relates closely to the bamboo basket weave example from this collection, lot 151, and it is possible that they were made at the same workshop
