FIRST EDITION of this classic work on fishery by the French polymath Duhamel du Monceau (1700-82), known for his interests in agronomy, chemistry, botany and shipping. As Brunet notes, this section formed part of the famous Description des Arts et Mtiers, but was also available separately. The plates depict different species of fish, fishing tackle, ships, and various ways of preserving fish by smoking or marinating (see the frontispiece of our catalogue).
