FIRST EDITION of this collection of Latin works which had previously been published separately. In Schreiber's words, the compilation "represents the most complete account of agriculture and horticulture in the 16th century. It consists of Charles Estienne's botanical works ... which include the works originally issued as children's books. This work was later translated into French, by Charles Estienne himself and his son-in-law, Jean Libault, and published in 1564 as La maison rustique, the standard work on agriculture and horticulture until the end of the 17th century, and with the great work on dissection Charles Estienne's best-known work." Adams S1740; Schreiber 134; Renouard 106, 5; Simon Bibliotheca Bacchica II, 223; Vicaire 3444.
