North's treatise was first published by Edmund Curll in 1713. An earlier issue with Albin's plates appeared in 1794 under the title The History of Esculent Fish. With an essay on the breeding of fish and construction of fish ponds, by Roger North. The plates themselves were originally produced for Albin's Icones piscium (London, 1735-41).
