FIRST AND ONLY EDITION. Although Westwood comments that "It would have had greater merit on the score of originality had it preceded Chetham's Vade Mecum", Howlett's work is described by James Robb as being "generally regarded as the most practical and useful fishing manual of its time. Among other things he describes how rods of various types may be made and, probably for the first time, how rings may be fixed for smooth running of the line ...."
