LARGE PAPER COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION. Westwood and Satchell note that that the Maxims are extracts from the commonplace book of the Houghton Fishing Club on the Test. The author, whose name was only given in the third edition of 1855, was the great grandson of William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania. W. & S. p. 168; Petit 1684: "Trs rare, presque unique".
