WALTON, Izaak and Charles COTTON. The Compleat Angler ... the seventh edition, very much enlarged and improved, edited by Moses Browne, London: printed and sold by Henry Kent, 1759. 12, engraved frontispiece and 9 plates by and after H. Burgh, woodcuts in text (D1 with segment torn from lower blank margin, D3 with tear at upper margin, occasional marginal staining or soiling), contemporary calf, dated in gilt on spine (joints cracked, extremities rubbed, corners bumped). Second edition by Moses Browne, the first appearing in 1750. Browne's edition of The Complete Angler was the first to be printed in the 18th century. Westwood comments: "Browne's editing was done with gusto; unfortunately the whim took him to prune and polish his author's style ... and to adapt him to the over-refined and artificial taste of the day, a sacrifice all reverend lovers of Isaac will find it hard to condone." W. & S. pp. 220-21.
Little Master's Miscellany; Or, divine and moral essays in prose and verse ... containing dialogues, Birmingham: by T. Warren, 1748. 12, engraved frontispiece and 3 plates, with the initial license leaf, contemporary calf gilt (extremities rubbed). Second edition, the first having been published in Birmingham in 1746. Of the nine dialogues, one is on fishing and one on fowling. Petit 1486; not known to Westwood. And 4 other volumes. (6)
