Chassis No. LSGE 272
Black with cream leather interior
Engine: six cylinder, 4877cc; Gearbox: four speed automatic; Suspension: independent front with semi-elliptic rear leaf springs; Brakes: hydraulic front with combination hydraulic and mechanical rear. Left hand drive.
Introduced in 1955, the Silver Cloud Rolls-Royce was the Crewe-based firm's movement into high quality modernized assembly production. As the bridge between custom coachwork and assembly line production, the Silver Cloud I was a well executed design that incorporated the pre-eminent design and mechanical superlatives of the Rolls-Royce heritage.
As the most expensive car in the world with a price tag toppling over $15,000, the Silver Cloud was a truly luxurious automobile. With its refined British coachwork the new Silver Cloud exuded a timeless elegance that would carry the nameplate well into the 1960s. The six cylinder powerplant was renowned for its reliability, ample power and, as stated in the Rolls-Royce Buyer's Guide, its extraordinary long life and with excellent maintenance may run up to 200,000 miles without an overhaul.
This Silver Cloud, chassis no. LSGE 272, was delivered to Mr. Howard Good of California in 1958 through British Motor Cars importers. The car remained in the ownership of the Good family until it was sold in 1992. While under the care of its original owners, the Silver Cloud was meticulously attended to in every way. Today the scrupulous care for the car has resulted in its rare and desirable low mileage condition. Of the many Cloud models, the Cloud I is considered to be the most desirable model, and with their elegant design and lavish interiors, these stately cars make for highly pleasant and painless touring. This low mileage Cloud I, consequently, shows less than 40,000 miles and is verified by its very complete service history.
The exterior paintwork is described as being in very original condition and has featured only limited cosmetic touch-up work. The cream leather interior is reported to be in excellent, original condition. The current owner reports that this low-mileage, three owner example is in overall truly impressive condition. The Silver Cloud is offered with its complete and original tool set, original owner's manual, leather notepad, mirrored compact case and leather card case accessories. Complete with its service history, this well-preserved and cared for Silver Cloud is a rare find and would be a highly suitable example on Rolls-Royce Owners' Club tours and events.
