The model 365 GT 2+2 such as this example, perhaps together with the 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso, represents the very finest and most tasteful of all Ferrari production models. In the years from 1960 to 1967 Pininfarina's two-door 2+2 coupes provided more than 50 percent of Maranello's total production, and from 1967-1971 the model represented here by '13065' perpetuated this popular success.

It was in France, at the Paris Salon of late 1967, that this 4.4 litre 2+2 model range was first shown to the public. The existing 4 litre V12 engine had been bored out from its original 77mm to 81mm to achieve the new 4.4 litre displacement which helped increase power output from 300 to 320bhp at the same engine speed of 6,600 rpm. But more significant was a massive gain in mid-range torque and flexibility, the peak torque figure rising from 33.2 to 37m kg (2,671lb./ft.) at 5,000 rpm.

The 5 speed and reverse gearbox was mounted in unit with the big V12 engine and the propeller shaft was now enclosed within a torque tube which united the engine/gearbox assembly up front with the back axle differential unit at the rear. This rigidly disposed mechanical assembly was then hung from the chassis at just four points, greatly decreasing noise and transmission vibration to the cabin interior in the manner already proven on the GTC and GTB/4 models.

This example, from the Phillips Collection, has 62,049 recorded miles. The Ferrari has an older feel to it now as the paintwork is beginning to age and there are one or two scuffs notably around the front grille, as well as some microblistering on the roof. The interior is all intact with black leather upholstery, head restraints, blue carpets and a Blaupunkt radio. The car has its original tool bag and driver's manual in its folder.
