"The 1995 red Hermitage would appear to possess magnificent potential. Whether the wine possessed the elegant delicacy of Les Rocoules, the dense, tannic power of l'Hermite, the sweet, wild-berry perfume and complexity of Pleat, the exotic, smoky, roasted, sexy ripeness, and mineral, Richebourg-like complexity of Les Bessards, the 1995 red Hermitage should prove to be Chave's finest vintage since 1990. Frankly, I believe it will eclipse the superb 1991's produced by Chave. It is a wine with exceptional richness and power. Chave believes (and I agree), that the 1995, more than most vintages, expresses the eloquence and complexity of the great terroirs of Hermitage. After tasting through the exceptional cuve of Les Bessards, aged in 100 new oak casks, I was convinced by the twinkle in the eyes of Jean-Louis and Grard that there is going to be a Cuve Cathelin in 1995, the first produced since the two heroic vintages of 1990 and 1991."
