Lot Essay

The style of this picture and the treatment of its subject can be compared with Appiani's Portrait of Mariana Morigia Reina, in the National Museum of Wales, Cardiff and with the Portrait of the Contessa Margherita Grimaldi Prati in the Pinacoteca of Treviso (see the catalogue of the exhibition, l'Et Neoclassica, Como, 1959, no. 229).
